The EDL march in Leicester, (today, Saturday 4th February) again closed part of the city including the normally vibrant and thriving outdoor market. It will be difficult to quantify the cost to the local economy. The cost to community relations in Leicester has been nil.
Leicester people again showed the EDL that they cannot divide them, cannot provoke them, cannot poison their outlook with their chants and bigotry.
The EDL visit has again cost the public purse hundreds of thousands of pounds, when they visited in 2010 it cost nearly a million pounds. The financial costs have been high, but Leicester people have again proved that extremism has no place in their city.
