Action for Rail announce new campaign date - 5th November

The 5th November marks the 20th Anniversary of the privatisation of the Railways by John Major's Tory government, therefore the respective bodies affiliated to Action for Rail will be staging a number of protests/events throughout the length and breadth of the UK rail network.

I can now confirm one or two arrangements that have now been notified to us for the Midlands Region.

1) there is to be a leaflet distribution at Birmingham International Station from 8.00am through to approximately 10.00 taking any media interviews. There are a number of large events taking place at the NEC on this date and will allow for a much larger distribution than what could be achieved at some of the smaller stations.

2) from 15.30 through to 17.00 at Burton on Trent station another leaflet distribution will take place with further media interview opportunities available. In attendance on the day will be Bob Crow (RMT General Secretary) and Jon Wheale the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Burton.

3) from 17.15 at the Grail Court Hotel, Burton on Trent a public meeting with guest speakers including Bob Crow, Jon Wheale, and others to be confirmed. Refreshments on arrival followed by a finger buffet.

I hope this will assist in gaining support for this campaign from other colleagues and Trades Unions  throughout the Midlands.
