Commenting on the latest inflation figures published
today (Tuesday) which show that consumer price index (CPI) annual inflation
dropped to 2.8 per cent, and retail price index (RPI) annual inflation fell to
3.1 per cent in May, Midlands TUC Regional Secretary Rob Johnston said:
"While today's drop in inflation is welcome, prices
are still rising faster than earnings and people are feeling the squeeze on
their finances more and more every month.
"Real wages have been falling since mid 2010 and the
government's own forecasts point to a three-year real earnings drop.
"The government must now invest in jobs and growth -
we won't get a sustainable recovery until incomes start rising again."
